Research

Dr. Oehmke is a health and development economist who seeks to generate policy-relevant research innovations and scholarship.  His latest project is creating global and local dashbaords with statistical and AI models of the relationships between climate and one health, with an emphasis on human health and the sustainable development goals. Dr. Oehmke’s passion is to inform public and private policy and resource allocation decisions with valid data and objective analysis. He is Professor Emeritus of Agricultural, Food, and Resource Economics at Michigan State University; and has previously served as Senior Policy Analyst and Acting Director of the Office of Policy, Analytics and Engagement at the U.S. Agency for International Development; and as CEO of the George Morris Centre for Agricultural Policy in Canada.  James earned a B.A. in Mathematics and Economics from Yale University and his M.A. and Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Chicago.
